    Bishop Barron's Lent Reflections
    • Bp. Barron's Lent Reflections

      • First Week of Lent
Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus tells the crowds who seek a sign that they will only receive the sign of Jonah: “Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this...
    Fasting & Abstinence
    • Fasting, Abstinence,
       & Other Acts of Penance

Along with Prayer, Fasting is one of the hallmarks of the Lenten season.

The Bishops of the United States prescribe, as minimal obligation, that all persons who are:

      1.  Fourteen years of age and older are bound to abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday, on all Fridays of Lent and Good Friday.

      2. Eighteen years of age and older, up to and including their 59th birthday, are bound to fast by limiting themselves to a single full meal on Ash Wednesday and on Good Friday, while the other meals on those days are to be light.

    Almsgiving
    • almsgiving

Along with Prayer and Abstinence, Almsgiving is an important part of our Lenten journey.

We start out giving to those in need by our Ash Wednesday collection which is earmarked for the Blessed Margaret Home for women with crisis pregnancies.

Before she retired, parishioner Pam Barnett administered the home and made it the respected pro-life program that it is today. So, please support the Blessed Margaret Home and look for ways to support other worthwhile charities.

We also recommend Operation Rice Bowl which combines the three elements of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Rice Bowls are available at the doors of the Church.
